11 Menai Bridge Restaurants You Should Check Out Today

Menai Bridge Restaurants

Menai Bridge is becoming quite the culinary hotspot. With Michelin stars and vegan cafés, this somewhat unassuming mecca for those in search of quality food offers something for everyone.

So whether you’re ravenously searching for a spot of dinner after spending a day at the beach or you’re simply an avid foodie looking to try some of the best restaurants Anglesey has to offer, this list of Menai Bridge restaurants should give you plenty of options to choose from.

The problem is settling on which one you like the look of the most!

#1: Tom’s Hamburger House

Sometimes you can’t beat a spot of burger and chips, especially after a long day of activities. Tom’s Hamburger House, located on the popular High Street of Menai Bridge, specialises in gourmet burgers made from high-quality, fresh and local ingredients.

With a range of burgers costing £10-£13, and each coming with a side of french fries this restaurant is perfect if you want something simple but incredibly tasty for dinner. They offer takeaway too, so you can wolf your order down in the comfort of your own accommodation.

#2: Hydeout Bar-B-Q & Smokehouse

If barbecue is your thing, then you’ll simply have to book a table at the Hydeout Bar-B-Q & Smokehouse. Nestled just off the main high street, this barbecue restaurant offers a rustic feel both indoors and outdoors.

If you’re in the market for some American-style ribs or posh burgers and hot dogs, this is your place. Mains are reasonably priced (£12-£30), with the meats from the smoker costing the most. They also offer a selection of local ales and craft lagers.

#3: Sopna Menai Tandoori

If you’re in the market for a curry, then there are several options within Menai Bridge. In all, there are three Indian restaurants (Taste of India and Britannia Curry House being the others) packed into this small seaside town. However, Sopna gets the nod from us (even though it’s a bit of a walk to the top of the hill near the A55 roundabout).

This Indian restaurant boasts a huge range of curries and South Asian dishes that are bound to hit the spot. Most curry dishes come in under £10 too, representing excellent value for money. They also offer takeaway, which is handy if you’re on the way back from the beach.

#4: Dylan’s Restaurant

No mention of restaurants in Menai Bridge could go without Dylan’s. Part of a three-restaurant chain across North Wales (the other two are in Criccieth and Llandudno), this casual dining concept that champions local produce is bound to please a range of palettes and boasts some of the best seafood dining in town. Better yet, the restaurant sits in an elevated position above the Strait itself.

The menu covers a range of options, including burgers, pizzas, and our favourite Welsh mussels with cream and cider. A word of caution when trying to dine at Dylan’s, it’s the most popular restaurant in town (with good reason) and you are unlikely to find a table here at any time of day unless you book in advance, particularly during the holidays.

Location: St George’s Rd, Menai Bridge LL59 5EY

#5: Freckled Angel

If you’re looking for something a bit fancier, the Freckled Angel offers tapas-style small plates of delicious predominately British fare. This intimate venue is perfect if there’s a group of you looking to share a number of meat, seafood, or vegetarian dishes together that change with the seasons. Our personal favourite is the baked camembert with chilli jam and warm bread.

Each dish is around the £7 mark, which means you can try plenty of these small plates, even if you’re on a tighter budget. Due to its cosy size, this is another restaurant that’s worth booking in advance, so you don’t miss out on the delectable treats inside.

Location: 49 High St, Menai Bridge LL59 5EF

Opening hours: 5–10 pm Monday – Thursday, 4–10 pm Friday – Saturday

#6: Green Olive

Vegans rejoice! Menai bridge restaurants now include a specialist vegan café within their ranks. From full-on vegan English breakfasts to plant-based burgers and hot dogs, this café is brimming with fantastic cruelty-free meals.

Since it’s open from 9 am to 5 pm, this quaint venue on Menai Bridge’s high street represents a great place to grab a pit stop lunch, or load up with a healthy(ish) breakfast before making your way onto your activities for the day.

#7: Sosban & The Old Butcher’s

Squeezed into the old butcher’s shop is possibly the most prized jewel amongst the crown of Menai Bridge restaurants. A visit to Sosban is like no other, and your dining is as much about the experience as the incredible British cuisine served on your (many) plates. There’s no doubt about it, if you’re a self-confessed foodie, this is the place for you, with a Michelin star having been recently awarded for good measure.

As you might expect, Sosban is not cheap. With a set dinner costing £145 per person, this restaurant is perhaps saved (and savoured) for a special occasion. Lunches are more affordable (relatively speaking of course) at £59 per head.

Location: Trinity House, 1 High St, Menai Bridge LL59 5EE

#8: Plus39

Right next door to Sosban is Plus39, an Italian restaurant that offers a warm welcome and a wide selection of Foccacia, Bruschetta, and Pinsa (much like Pizzas but oblong in shape and healthier too!). Plus they are open from early in the morning to serve proper Italian coffee and cakes.

So, if you want a taste of the Mediterranean despite your Welsh seaside surroundings, this is the restaurant for you. (Please note that the hours listed below may differ during the winter months).

Location: Uxbridge House, Uxbridge Square, Menai Bridge LL59 5DG

Opening hours: 8 am–8 pm Monday – Wednesday, 8 am–9 pm Thursday – Saturday

#9: Jade Village

If you have a hankering for Chinese, then Jade Village should be your port of call if you find yourself in Menai Bridge. Located a stone’s throw from Waitrose on the A5, this large restaurant has plenty of seating capacity and offers a huge range of menu items, including all of the usual favourites.

One of the features of this Chinese restaurant is the set menu options, which offer excellent value for money. You can also pick up your favourite Chinese dishes to take home with you. A special mention here also goes to Ho Wah (located just off the High Street, opposite Plus39) and Elegant Chinese Takeaway, which are both takeaway-only and also well-regarded.

Location: Mona Rd, Menai Bridge LL59 5EA

Opening hours: 12–1:30 pm, 5–10 pm Tuesday – Sunday

#10: Sage Kitchen

One of the newer kids on the block concerning Menai Bridge restaurants is Sage Kitchen, which opened during the pandemic and has been making waves ever since. The focus here is very much on local food and drink with a small menu that frequently changes with the seasonality of produce. Mains are £15 to £35, with sumptuous Welsh fillet steak coming in as the most expensive menu item.

If you want Michelin-style dining without the associated price tag, then this is the spot for you. But you might want to book in soon as the restaurant has already won a number of awards and its popularity is only set to increase.

Location: 9 Wood St, Menai Bridge LL59 5AS

#11: Gazelle Hotel

If restaurants were competing for the best setting to eat, then the Gazelle Hotel would win hands down. Sat right on the Menai Strait on the road to Beaumaris (you’ll need a car to get here), the Gazelle Hotel offers diners stunning views of the Strait and Garth Pier. A family-run pub under the Robinsons umbrella, the hotel also boasts a fantastic outdoor seating area, perfect for the summer months.

The food is predominately traditional pub fare with dishes such as steak and ale pie, fish and chips, and Menai mussels, all coming in at around £10 to £15 per main. It’s also a dog-friendly venue, which is a nice added bonus.

Location: Beaumaris Road, Menai Bridge, LL59 5PD

That concludes this list of Menai Bridge restaurants we think are more than worth paying a visit. There are, of course, plenty of worthy eateries not listed here. However, these are our subjective top picks for restaurants in the Menai Bridge area, and as soon as we visit more establishments worth a mention, we’ll come back and update the list.
